In juni 2024 reist choreografisch talent van over de hele wereld naar Rotterdam voor de zesde editie van de Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC). Een must voor alle dansliefhebbers! Zestien choreografen presenteren veelzijdige, vernieuwende en opmerkelijke duetten en strijden om veelbelovende prijzen. De competitie
Met grote trots presenteert RIDCC dit dynamische en unieke evenement, waar zestien geselecteerde choreografen zich inzetten voor veelbelovende prijzen. Tijdens de voorrondes op 20 en 21 juni bent u getuige van zestien duetten, in alle mogelijke dansstijlen. Op zaterdag 24 juni wordt het event met een grootse finale afgesloten met de duetten die geselecteerd zijn door een prestigieuze jury. Uit deze selectie kiest de jury de winnaar van de XL Productie Award, terwijl de partners van RIDCC uit alle zestien deelnemers de winnaars van de Partner Awards kiezen. Tot slot bepaalt u, onder het genot van een drankje en een hapje, welke talentvolle choreograaf de Publieksprijs in ontvangst mag nemen. Tijdens een feestelijke prijsuitreiking worden alle winnaars van RIDCC 2024 bekendgemaakt.

Bijzonder deze editie is het optreden van deelnemers van RIDCC 2018, Danae en Dionysios (Griekenland), die terugkomen met twee locatievoorstellingen. De middagvoorstelling Napi, the girl and the bubble, ook geschikt voor jong publiek, is geïnspireerd door Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbor Totoro. Deze choreografie vertelt het verhaal van een fascinerende vriendschap tussen een meisje en een mysterieus, maar vertrouwd wezen. Daarnaast presenteert het choreografenduo hun nieuwste werk Fάrιsa, dat twee personages volgt in hun verlangen naar verbinding en contact. Beide stukken worden op vrijdag en zaterdag opgevoerd als buitenvoorstelling (vier in totaal), op het Schouwburgplein.

De prijzen
De winnaar van de hoofdprijs, de XL Productie Award (ter waarde van € 100.000) krijgt de unieke mogelijkheid om een nieuwe, autonome productie te maken bij Scapino Ballet Rotterdam met garantie op een tournee door het land. 

De partners van RIDCC, nationaal en internationaal gerenommeerde gezelschappen, kiezen de winnaars van de Partner Awards. De deelnemende partners die in 2024 een Award uitreiken: Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Maas Theater & Dans, Club Guy & Roni, Codarts Rotterdam, Conny Janssen Danst, Dansateliers, Korzo, MiR Dance Company GelsenKirchen (Duitsland), Dutch National Ballet, Skånes Dansteater (Malmö, Zweden), CCN de créteil et du Val-de-Marne/ EMKA (Parijs, Frankrijk), TANZ Bielefeld (Duitsland), en TanzLabor ROXY Ulm (Duitsland).

Tot slot bepaalt u, ons publiek, welke talentvolle choreograaf de Publieksprijs verdient.

In June 2024, choreographic talent from all over the world will travel to Rotterdam for the sixth edition of the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC). A must for all dance lovers! Sixteen choreographers will present multi-styled, innovative and remarkable duets, while competing for outstanding awards. Book your tickets and discover the work of a new generation of dance artists at Theater Rotterdam!

The competition
RIDCC is very proud to present this vibrant and unique event where sixteen selected choreographers will compete for outstanding prizes. You can witness the sixteen multi-style duets during the preliminary rounds on 20 and 21 June. On Saturday 22 June, the event will come to a close with a grand finale featuring the duets that have been selected by a prestigious jury. From this selection, the jury will choose the winner of the XL Production Award, while the RIDCC partners will choose the winners of the Partner Awards from all sixteen participants. Finally, over drinks and snacks, you will decide which talented choreographer will receive the Audience Award. A festive awards ceremony will announce all RIDCC 2024 winners.

A special feature of the 2024 edition will be the performance of the 2018 RIDCC participants Danae and Dionysios (Greece), who will return with two site-specific performances. The afternoon performance Napi, the girl and the bubble, also suitable for a young audience, is inspired by Hayao Miyazaki's My Neighbour Totoro. This choreography tells the story of a fascinating friendship between a girl and a mysterious but familiar creature. In addition, the duo will present their latest work Fάrιsa, which follows two characters in their longing for connection and contact. Both pieces will be presented as outdoor performances (four in total) on Schouwburgplein, on Friday and Saturday.

The awards 
The winner of the main prize, the XL Production Award (worth €100,000), will have the unique opportunity to create a new, independent production at Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, with the guarantee of a national tour. 

RIDCC's partners, nationally and internationally renowned companies, select the winners of the Partner Awards. The participating partners in 2024 are: Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Maas Theater & Dans, Club Guy & Roni, Codarts Rotterdam, Conny Janssen Danst, Dansateliers, Korzo, MiR Dance Company GelsenKirchen (Germany), Dutch National Ballet, Skånes Dansteater (Malmö, Sweden), CCN de créteil et du Val-de-Marne/ EMKA (Paris, France), TANZ Bielefeld (Germany), and TanzLabor ROXY Ulm (Germany). 

Finally, you, our audience, will decide which talented choreographer deserves the Audience Award.
