Following The Point Being (2023), NDT 2 welcomes back Imre van Opstal & Marne van Opstal - now as their new associate choreographers. Since their departure from NDT 1 as dancers and the start of their choreographic journey, the siblings have established themselves as distinct makers with a raw and emotional style. In this world premiere, the choreographic duo will examine how spaces can liberate us, yet also impose limits. Through striking design and their expressive movement language, they explore how we see ourselves—both powerful and significant, yet small in the vastness of the world.
The worlds that Sharon Eyal & Gai Behar create on stage are truly unique, intoxicating and deeply immersive. In I dreamt, it was you’re invited to step into the universe of SAABA (2021). Originally created for GöteborgsOperansDanskompani, we’re thrilled to bring this acclaimed work to NDT 2 for the first time in a bold new version. Exuding passion and vulnerability, the work unfolds through hypnotic movement, evocative lighting, and the irresistible groove of composer Ori Lichtik. SAABA is another brilliant example of Eyal's daring choreographic voice, seamlessly transforming classical ballet and contemporary dance into something beyond imagination. Irresistible!
Na The Point Being (2023) verwelkomt NDT 2 hun nieuwe associate choreografen Imre van Opstal & Marne van Opstal voor een wereldpremière. Sinds hun vertrek als dansers bij NDT en de start van hun carrière als choreografen hebben de zus en broer zichzelf weten te onderscheiden als uitgesproken makers met een rauwe en emotionele stijl. In hun nieuwe creatie onderzoeken ze wat de invloed is van ruimtes op ons gemoed: hoe een ruimte ons kan bevrijden, maar ook beperken. Met uitgesproken decor en hun intrigerende bewegingstaal houden ze ons een spiegel voor: dat we ons soms groot en onoverwinnelijk kunnen voelen, maar tegelijkertijd klein en nietig zijn in verhouding tot de rest van de wereld.
De werelden die Sharon Eyal & Gai Behar creëren op het podium zijn uniek, bedwelmend en intens meeslepend te noemen. In I dreamt, it was word je uitgenodigd om in het universum van SAABA (2021) te stappen. Dit geliefde werk werd gecreëerd voor GöteborgsOperansDanskompani, maar NDT 2 presenteert het nu in een eigen, vernieuwde versie. SAABA ademt passie en kwetsbaarheid, en verleidt met hypnotiserende bewegingen, sferisch lichtontwerp en de onweerstaanbare groove van componist Ori Lichtik. Dit werk is een krachtig voorbeeld van Eyals geniale en eigenzinnige stem, waarmee ze klassiek ballet en hedendaagse dans samensmelt tot iets bovennatuurlijks. Onweerstaanbaar!
