Imagine. Een sci-fi wereld die wordt gevormd door het muzikale genre van reggaeton, de urban dance perreo, de taalkundige ervaring van het dagelijks leven door een beperkt begrip van het Engels, en de historische band van Midden-Amerika met de export van exotische vruchten.

Imagine a sci-fi world shaped by the musical genre of reggaeton, the urban dance perreo, the linguistic experience of everyday life through a limited understanding of English, and the historical connection of Central America with the export of exotic fruits.

This is the world that Flesh can’t can’ t not’t ‘tis flesh h… invokes, a multisensory performance that mixes live music, projection of text, dance and sculpture. Two burning bodies guide us through the landscapes of a foreign world, to explore the bittersweet ventures of the Global South-Global North migration, and to trace part of the histories found in the Central American region. in

Dit is de wereld die Flesh can’t can’ t not’t ‘tis flesh h… oproept, een multisensoriële voorstelling die live muziek, projectie van tekst, dans en beeldhouwwerk vermengt. Twee brandende lichamen leiden ons door de landschappen van een vreemde wereld, om de bitterzoete ondernemingen van de migratie tussen de Global South en Global North en om een deel van de geschiedenissen in de Midden-Amerikaanse regio te traceren.

Over Mario Barrantes Espinoza
Mario Barrantes Espinoza is een Costa Ricaans-Nicaraguaanse kunstenaar die werkt in Brussel. Hij studeerde theater en dans in Costa Rica en vervolgde zijn opleiding aan P.A.R.T.S. in Brussel. Hij werkte met o.a. François Chaignaud, Benjamin Abel Meirhaeghe en Michiel Vandevelde, en trad op met Peaches en The Subs. Mario maakt performatief werk waarin stem, tekst en popcultuur samenkomen. Zijn creaties werden geselecteerd voor Aerowaves en bekroond met de Roel Verniers prijs. Hij is ook actief als curator van hybride nachtleven-projecten zoals Culo shaking night… en Apolemia.
