We Sleep Among Demons is a musical performance about daring to look your greatest fears straight in the eye. In a ritualistic concert for devil-exorcism, Club Gewalt member Amir Vahidi kills his own discomfort in order to take center stage. Like in a fever dream, he battles the inner demons that shape his view of reality. Inspired by Persian mythology and accompanied by dreamy, narrative music, he frees himself from the compulsions of the past. Letting go is also a form of harvesting.
We Sleep Among Demons is a musical performance about daring to face your deepest fears. In a ritualistic concert for exorcism, Club Gewalt member Amir Vahidi kills his own unease in order to take center stage. Like in a fever dream, he confronts the inner demons that shape his gaze on reality. The demonic voice of a mother telling him he mustn’t be angry? Banished. The voice of the racist bouncer who tells him he doesn’t belong in the club? Sent away. His white artistic collective that doesn’t take his voice seriously? Smoked out. But what do you do with your own voice, when it drags you down at every opportunity and would prefer to cut you off at the ankles?
Inspired by Persian mythology and accompanied by dreamy, narrative music, Amir frees himself from the compulsions of the past. Finding trust in vulnerability, even when being hurt is guaranteed. Because there is no other option. Because the D20 sometimes rolls a 20 and sometimes a 1, but usually something in between (nerd alert!). And because fate only truly becomes fate when you take it into your own hands. Letting go is also a form of harvesting.
We Sleep Among Demons is a creation by Amir Vahidi in which he searches for roots that don’t need soil in order to ground. For a heritage that transcends space and time.

About Club Gewalt
We are CLUB GEWALT, a music & performance collective from Rotterdam. We create, compose, produce and perform our own work, in which music is always the beginning, middle and end point. We love autotune as much as Monteverdi. Fascinated by pop culture and the millennial experience, we create universes where different genres and disciplines intersect, forming a new sensory experience: musicals about the end of the world, meditative operas, eco-feminist punk bands, ungraspable radio art, and monuments for a drowning city. We are addicted to our audience and, on the eve of the apocalypse, we sing our lungs out in an attempt to unlock an alternative timeline.
About Amir Vahidi
Amir Vahidi has been a member of the music and performance collective Club Gewalt since its inception. He is a performer, composer, songwriter, and all-round viber.
Geïnspireerd door Perzische mythologie en onder begeleiding van dromerige verhalende muziek bevrijdt Amir zichzelf van de dwangmatigheid van het verleden. Vertrouwen vinden in kwetsbaarheid, ook als gekwetst worden daarmee een zekerheid is. Omdat er geen andere optie is. Omdat de D20 soms een 20 is en soms een 1, maar meestal iets ertussenin (nerd alert!). En omdat het lot nu eenmaal pas echt het lot is, als je het in eigen hand neemt. Loslaten is ook een vorm van oogsten.

Over Club Gewalt
Wij zijn CLUB GEWALT, een muziek & performance collectief uit Rotterdam. We maken, componeren, produceren en performen ons eigen werk waarin muziek altijd ons begin- midden en eindpunt is. We houden net zoveel van autotune als van Monteverdi. Gefascineerd door popcultuur en de belevingswereld van de millennial creëren we universums waar verschillende genres en disciplines elkaar kruisen en een nieuwe zintuiglijke ervaring vormen: musicals over het einde van de wereld, meditatieve opera’s, eco-feministische punkbands, onnavolgbare radiokunst en monumenten voor een verdrinkende stad. We zijn verslaafd aan ons publiek en zingen, aan de vooravond van de apocalyps, de longen uit ons lijf in een poging een alternatieve timeline te unlocken.
