Whispered Dreams begon als een reeks brieven en teksten die werden uitgewisseld tussen Mona (een schrijfster en actrice uit Teheran) en Fariborz. Ze zijn goede vrienden en leden van hetzelfde collectief dat sinds 2011 actief is in Teheran. Op basis van deze teksten kijken ze terug op hun band, vriendschap en artistieke samenwerking, waarbij ze rekening houden met hun ervaringen: die van Fariborz in Amsterdam en die van Mona in Teheran.

Omdat zij zich allebei in een ander land/op een ander continent bevinden, vindt hun samenwerking op afstand plaats. Dit brengt bepaalde uitdagingen met zich mee voor hun creatieve proces en performatieve opstellingen. Deze afstand is een integraal onderdeel van het concept van de performance en werpt uitdagingen op, met name wat betreft de rol van het publiek in de zaal.

‘Vriendschap’ is het centrale thema dat Fariborz verkent in Whispered Dreams. Hij bevraagt verschillende aspecten van - de concepten - van vriendschap, zelfcensuur, afstand, afwezigheid en aanwezigheid en onderzoekt hij hoe dit te vertalen naar een voorstelling in een fysieke ruimte waarbij hij ook het publiek betrekt. 

Whispered Dreams began as a series of letters and texts exchanged between Mona (a writer and actress based in Tehran) and Fariborz. They are close friends and members of the same collective that has been active in Tehran since 2011. Starting from these texts, they are revisiting their connection, friendship, and artistic collaboration, considering lived experiences—Fariborz' in Amsterdam and hers in Tehran. Due to the distance, their collaboration takes place remotely, which presents certain challenges in their creative process and performative setups. This distance is integral to the concept of the work, posing challenges, particularly in relation to audience role.  

 ‘Friendship’ is the central theme they explore in Whispered Dreams where Fariborz questions different aspects of friendship, self-censorship, distance, absence and presence as concepts and examines how to translate it into a physical space while engaging audience members.
