In Islands of Empathy zoekt Club Guy & Roni naar hoe empathie een drijvende kracht kan zijn in hoe we met elkaar samenleven.

In Islands of Empathy (in a Sea of Chaos), de nieuwste performance van Club Guy & Roni en Slagwerk Den Haag, staat het thema empathie centraal en wordt onderzocht hoe dit de drijvende kracht kan zijn in de manier waarop we samenleven.  
 
In de Nederlandse cultuur wordt geleerd om continu de beste versie van onszelf te zijn; als individu en onafhankelijk van de behoeften van anderen. Terwijl in talloze andere culturen de nadruk juist ligt op het welzijn van het collectief en veel minder op persoonlijke ontwikkeling. Een keerzijde van empathie kan zijn dat je zo’n hechte groep vormt dat de kloof met mensen buiten de groep alleen maar groter wordt.  
Islands of Empathy is een samenwerking met Senegalese griots; verhalenvertellers die tradities en geschiedenis in leven houden met dans, muziek en poëzie. In Senegal ontmoette Club Guy & Roni spirituele leiders, dansers en kunstenaars en sprak met hen over empathie en community. Deze gesprekken vormen de blauwdruk voor Islands of Empathy. 

De combinatie van live gespeelde beats door Slagwerk Den Haag en Pape Seck en de kenmerkende explosieve energie van het ensemble van Club Guy & Roni zorgt voor een overweldigende dansvoorstelling.

Islands of Empathy (in a Sea of Chaos) maakt deel uit van Club Guy & Roni’s Human Odyssey, waarin verschillende menselijke gevoelens zoals liefde, angst, geluk en empathie onderzoeken vanuit een intercultureel perspectief.

Islands of Empathy (in a Sea of Chaos), the latest performance by Club Guy & Roni and Slagwerk Den Haag, focuses on the theme of empathy and how it can be the driving force in the way people live together.   

In Dutch culture, we are taught to constantly be the best version of ourselves; as individuals, and independent of the needs of others. Whereas in countless other cultures, the emphasis is instead on the well-being of the collective and much less on personal development. A risk of empathy is forming such tight-knit groups that the gap with people outside that group widens.   

Islands of Empathy is a collaboration with Senegalese griots; storytellers who keep traditions and history alive with dance, music and poetry. In Senegal, Club Guy & Roni met spiritual leaders, dancers and artists and talked to with about empathy and community. These conversations form the blueprint for Islands of Empathy.  
The combination of beats played live by Slagwerk Den Haag and Pape Seck and the characteristic explosive energy of Club Guy & Roni's ensemble makes for an overwhelming dance performance.
