In the performance Emo, choreographer Anne Suurendonk explores the emotional world of women. In a society where social norms often restrict women from openly expressing their emotions, Suurendonk asks: what happens when we let go of those societal rules? The answer is a space where emotions can be fully felt and shared.

Two powerful dancers, Melisa Diktaş and Evelien Jansen, bring these emotions to life. Without shame, they make them tangible and palpable. They are both raw and explosive, as well as vulnerable and pure. Driven by Suurendonk's distinctive movement language—full of bounces and grooves—the duet comes to life. Supported by the music of Tom van Wee, the dancers take us on an experience where we don't just watch, but truly feel. Suurendonk invites us to show emotions without filters and to feel without judgment.

Last year, Anne Suurendonk won the Innovation Award at the Dutch Dance Days 2024. This award gave her the opportunity to create a new performance, Emo, which will premiere at this year’s edition of the Dutch Dance Days. The jury regards Anne as a talented creator who, with complete dedication and surrender, manages to deeply move her audience: “With her entirely unique movement language, centered around inner experience, Anne Suurendonk brings a new color to the dance field. Her work is pure and raw.”
