Theatre maker and choreographer Anthony van Gog works at the intersection of movement, light and sound. Through his work, he invites audiences not only to watch, but above all to feel.
The quiet is an immersion in sound, light and bodies. At the centre of the space, on a raised platform, lie three performers. The slightest movements of the body unfold: shivers of sleeplessness, excitement and fatigue. Bathed in light, in each other, in sweat. Driven by the music and the pulse of the body. The audience is in motion, walking around the theatrical still life. An invitation for the viewer to continually choose a position in relation to the sound, the other and the performers.
Come closer or take a step back; what first appears still turns out to be full of movement. What is familiar feels strange. A heartbeat. Involuntary muscle tension, conscious relaxation. A sigh. A groan. A final breath?
With an ingenious scenography of invisible microphones, a cinematic soundscape and intimate, painterly light, the invisible is made tangible. In a world where bodies are increasingly reduced to pixels, data and performance, The quiet brings us back to what it means to be a body: raw, vulnerable and real. An ode to the body in its purest form.
The quiet is een onderdompeling in geluid, licht en lijven. Centraal in de ruimte op een verhoogd platform liggen drie performers. De stilste bewegingen van het lichaam, rillingen van slapeloosheid, opwinding en vermoeidheid ontvouwen zich. Badend in het licht, in elkaar, in het zweet. Voortgedreven door de muziek en de puls van het lichaam. Het publiek is in beweging, loopt rondom het theatrale stilleven. Een uitnodiging aan de kijker om steeds positie te kiezen, ten opzichte van het geluid, de ander en de performers.
Kom dichterbij of neem even afstand, wat eerst stil lijkt, blijkt vol beweging. Wat herkenbaar is, voelt vreemd. Een harteklop. Onwillekeurige spierspanning, bewuste ontspanning. Een zucht. Een kreun. Een laatste adem?
Met een ingenieuze scenografie van onzichtbare microfoons, filmisch geluidsbeeld en intiem schilderend licht, wordt het onzichtbare voelbaar gemaakt. In een wereld waar lichamen steeds vaker worden gereduceerd tot pixels, data en prestaties, brengt The quiet ons terug naar wat het betekent om lijf te zijn: rauw, kwetsbaar en werkelijk. Een ode aan het lichaam in zijn puurste vorm.
