Over TRaces
Tijdens het gratis expo-programma TRaces nodigen we Rotterdamse kunstenaars, van opkomend tot gevestigd, uit om ons gebouw te gebruiken als podium voor doorlopende tentoonstellingen van interdisciplinair werk dat verbinding maakt met de stad Rotterdam en haar inwoners. De hal is de tentoonstellingsruimte waar deze uitgenodigde Rotterdamse kunstenaars hun sporen achterlaten. Is er een voorstelling in de grote zaal? Dan kun je voor aanvang, tijdens en kort na afloop van de voorstelling altijd binnenlopen tijdens de expo-periode. Vanaf 3 maart verwelkomen we Jeisson Drenth.
Over de kunstenaar
Met zijn werk onderzoekt interdisciplinair kunstenaar Jeisson Drenth de mogelijkheden en beperkingen van technologieën voor mensen om hun verleden, heden en toekomst vorm te geven. Zijn praktijk brengt video, sculptuur, performance, poëzie en muziek samen. In zijn handen worden media doordrenkt met queer perspectieven en zijn geleefde ervaring als geadopteerde met een geschiedenis van intercontinentale migratie.
Na zes jaar te hebben gewerkt als VJ en ontwerper, startte hij in 2019 zijn autonome kunstpraktijk. Jeissons eerste solotentoonstelling presenteerde onderzoek naar de commercialisering van DNA-tests en de ethische overwegingen rond genetische selectie. Dit onderzoek verbreedde en verdiepte zijn begrip van biculturele identiteit en beleid rondom ontheemding, waardoor hij zich kon verbinden met meer mensen die de ervaring delen van het onderzoeken van hun afkomst en het opnieuw verbeelden van verloren verbindingen met cultureel erfgoed overzee. Dit werd een kernelement van zijn praktijk.
Terwijl Jeisson blijft optreden als VJ, zowel individueel als in samenwerkingen, blijft hij zijn interdisciplinaire kunstpraktijk verder ontwikkelen. In 2026 zal hij nieuwe live performances in première brengen met originele muziek, visuals en teksten, en daarnaast een nieuwe serie kunstobjecten produceren. Geïnspireerd door zijn voortdurende onderzoek naar precolumbiaanse en pre-Inca-keramiek zullen deze objecten worden ontwikkeld tot scenografieën voor grotere toekomstige producties.

About TRaces
During the free expo program TRaces, we invite Rotterdam artists, from emerging to established, to use our building as a stage for ongoing exhibitions of interdisciplinary work that connect with the city of Rotterdam and its residents. The lobby is the exhibition space where these invited Rotterdam artists leave their mark! Is Theater Rotterdam open? Then you can always drop in during the expo period. From December 2nd until December 29th we welcome the artist .
About the artist
With his work, cross-disciplinary artist Jeisson Drenth explores the possibilities and limitations of technologies for people to shape their past, present and future. His practice brings together video, sculpture, performance, poetry, and music. In his hands, media become embedded with queer perspectives and his lived experience as an adopted person with a history of intercontinental migration.
After working as a VJ and designer for 6 years, he set up his art practice in 2019. Jeisson’s first solo-exhibition presented research into the commercialisation of DNA-testing and the ethical considerations around genetic selection. This research broadened and deepened his understanding of bicultural identity and policies around displacement, something that allowed him to connect to more people that share the experiences of researching ancestry and reimagining lost connections to cultural heritage overseas. This became a core element of his practice.
As Jeisson continues performing as a VJ, individually as well as within collaborations, he continues to develop his cross-disciplinary art practice. In 2026 he will premiere new live performances with original music, visuals and texts as well as produce a new series of art objects. Inspired by his ongoing research into pre-Columbian and pre-Incan ceramics; these objects will be developed into stage designs for larger future productions.
