In her latest performance, Mette Ingvartsen transforms the stage into a skatepark. Immerse yourself in the captivating encounter between skaters, dancers, and theater.  The Danish choreographer creates a choreography full of passion, perseverance, and creativity on the ultimate stage of freedom.

According to the legend, skateboarding originated when surfers, compelled by the low waves, began seeking the smooth asphalt of Los Angeles. With fluid movements, skaters gracefully glide through our urban landscapes, boldly claiming public spaces with their powerful and boundary-pushing actions.

Mette Ingvartsen, alongside a group of local skaters and dancers, explores the velocity and energy of motion on wheels, evoking memories of her own youth. Skatepark transcends mere spectacle of virtuosic stunts; it symbolizes the emergence of a community. This community is driven by unwavering determination and hard work, where individuals dare to try, fall, and redefine the limits of what is possible, both individually and collectively.

Within this performance, the theater serves as a seamless backdrop for encounters between skaters and dancers of different generations. Their continuous quest for balance and their exuberant interactions and collisions within shared spaces converge into something grander—a society from which invaluable lessons can be learned.

Skatepark is a jubilant celebration of the local and international skateboarding community.

In haar nieuwste voorstelling transformeert Mette Ingvartsen het podium letterlijk om in een skatepark. Verlies jezelf in de ontmoeting tussen skaters, dansers en theater. De Deense choreografe creëert een choreografie vol passie, doorzettingsvermogen en creativiteit op het ultieme podium van vrijheid.

Volgens de legende ontstond skateboarden op een dag toen surfers door de lage golven gedwongen werden het asfalt van Los Angeles op te zoeken. Met soepele bewegingen glijden skaters door onze steden, en eisen de openbare ruimte op met krachtige en grensverleggende acties.  

Mette Ingvartsen verkent samen met een groep lokale skaters en dansers de snelheid en energie van beweging op wielen, een herinnering aan haar eigen jeugd. Skatepark gaat verder dan een schouwspel van virtuoze stunts; het symboliseert de opkomst van een gemeenschap. Een gemeenschap die gedreven wordt door doorzettingsvermogen en hard werken, waar individuen proberen, vallen en de grenzen van het mogelijke verleggen, alleen, maar toch samen.  

In deze voostelling biedt het theater een vloeiend kader voor ontmoetingen tussen skaters en dansers van verschillende generaties. Hun voortdurende pogingen om in balans te blijven en te springen, hun levendige interacties en botsingen in gedeelde ruimtes vormen iets groters - een samenleving waarvan we kunnen leren.

Skatepark is een viering van de lokale en internationale skategemeenschap.
