Stage so near so far - Reading and discussion around Pages Magazine special issue nr. 11

The new issue of Pages Magazine consists entirely of plays and performance texts by Iranian women writers living in or outside of Iran. These writings, whether based on actual experience, fictional, or drawn from archives, deal in one way or another with the question of the stage. They produce a contested space of performance that is inevitably linked to the performer’s body, whose thresholds are stretched and contracted into a potentially new forms of staging. The authors in this issue place their writing in performative relation to the specific historical and sociopolitical conditions in which they live and work. 

This special issue has been published with the intention of extending the contributions into a series of public readings in close collaboration with the authors. For this year's festival, Feeling Curious? will host a reading of the monologue The Possible written by writer and theatre maker Naghmeh Manavi. The actor/performer Anna Franziska Jäger is invited to read this text in English. This will be then followed by a conversation between Naghmeh Manavi, Nasrin Tabatabai and Babak Afrassiabi (artists and editors of Pages) and dramaturge, screenwriter, and contributor to Pages Nasim Ahmadpour. Naghmeh Manavi and Nasim Ahmadpour will join us via video call.

Stage so near so far - Lezing en discussie rondom het speciale nummer nr. 11 van het tijdschrift Pages

Het nieuwe nummer van het tijdschrift Pages bestaat volledig uit toneelstukken en teksten voor performance van Iraanse vrouwelijke schrijvers die in Iran of daarbuiten wonen. Deze teksten, gebaseerd op werkelijke ervaringen, fictief of geput uit archiefmateriaal, gaan op de een of andere manier over het vraagstuk van het podium. Ze creëren een omstreden performanceruimte die onvermijdelijk verbonden is met het lichaam van de performer, wiens grenzen worden opgerekt en samengetrokken tot potentieel nieuwe vormen van ensceneren. De auteurs in dit nummer plaatsen hun schrijven in een performatieve relatie tot de specifieke historische en sociaal-politieke omstandigheden waarin ze leven en werken.

Dit speciale nummer van het tijdschrift is gepubliceerd met de bedoeling de teksten uit te breiden naar een reeks openbare lezingen in nauwe samenwerking met de auteurs. Deze speciale editie is uitgebracht met de intentie om de bijdragen om te zetten in een serie openbare lezingen, in nauwe samenwerking met de auteurs. Tijdens deze editie zal Feeling Curious? een lezing presenteren van de monoloog 'The Possible', geschreven door schrijver en theatermaker Naghmeh Manavi. Actrice Anna Franziska Jäger is uitgenodigd deze tekst in het Engels voor te dragen. Na de lezing volgt een gesprek tussen Naghmeh Manavi, Nasrin Tabatabai, Babak Afrassiabi (kunstenaars en redacteuren van 'Pages') en dramaturg, scenariste en bijdrager aan 'Pages', Nasim Ahmadpour. Naghmeh Manavi en Nasim Ahmadpour zullen via een videoverbinding deelnemen.
