In her rich body of work, this Flemish choreographer has always touched upon deep emotions and weighty subjects that are closely connected to her. But now is the time to find tranquility in a perfectly balanced center. The Balancing Act presents a performance that meanders like a fluid movement, reaching almost meditative heights. Yet, balance proves to be a fleeting phenomenon, almost elusive.

Balance seems to be something that’s never really graspable. It’s almost falling, getting yourself together, and going on.

Ann Van den Broek is once again experimenting with live video footage, sound, and light effects, blurring the boundaries between dancer and musician. The performers use musical pedals to manipulate sound, light, and visuals. They seek the right volume, perfect sharpness, and exquisite lighting in which life can be enjoyed in all its splendor. This creates a vibrant and installation-like setting that dances on the boundaries of dance and performance.

For The Balancing Act, Ann Van den Broek has meticulously studied and examined the human body once again. She views the body as a scale, where every joint and muscle collaborates to prevent falling. In addition to this physical balance, she draws inspiration from our daily pursuit of a harmonious life.

Ontdek evenwichtigheid met het uitgebalanceerde The Balancing Act. Na het verkennen van duistere thema's en het uiten van intense emoties in Ohm en Joy Enjoy Joy, gaat ze nu op zoek naar evenwicht. Evenwicht in ons lichaam, onze geest, ons dagelijks leven en haar choreografisch werk.

In haar rijke oeuvre heeft deze Vlaamse choreograaf altijd diepe emoties en zware onderwerpen aangeraakt die nauw met haar verbonden zijn. Maar nu is het tijd om rust te vinden in een perfect uitgebalanceerd middelpunt. The Balancing Act brengt een voorstelling die als een vloeiende beweging meandert naar bijna meditatieve hoogtes. Toch blijkt evenwicht een vluchtig fenomeen dat bijna ongrijpbaar is.

Ann Van den Broek experimenteert opnieuw met live videobeelden, geluids- en lichteffecten, waarbij de grenzen tussen danser en muzikant vervagen. De performers gebruiken muziekpedalen om geluid, licht en beeld te manipuleren. Ze zoeken naar het juiste volume, de perfecte scherpte en een prachtige belichting waarin het leven in al zijn pracht kan worden genoten. Dit creëert een levendige en installatie-achtige setting die danst op de grenzen van dans en performance.

Voor The Balancing Act heeft Ann Van den Broek het menselijk lichaam opnieuw tot in detail bestudeerd en onderzocht. Ze ziet het lichaam als een weegschaal, waarin elk gewricht en elke spier samenwerkt om niet te vallen. Naast deze fysieke balans haalt ze inspiratie uit ons dagelijks streven naar een evenwichtig leven.
