In Out of the stillness, we celebrate the creative dynamism of NDT 1 through two distinct choreographic visions. Hofesh Shechter returns to NDT with a daring world premiere, his fourth creation for the company. We also revisit Gabriela Carrizo’s The missing door (2013), a compelling and mysterious fusion of dance and theatre.
Hofesh Shechter - New work
After the successful remount of audience favourite Clowns (2016) in 2024, choreographer Hofesh Shechter returns to NDT with a fierce and unapologetically raw world premiere. Renowned for works that probe what stirs beneath the surface—within us and in the world around us—Shechter explores the friction between identity, the constructions of the mind, and the living body. In his new creation, dreamlike sequences unfold alongside sudden interruptions of reality, pushing the dancers to their limits. As Shechter describes, “Your mind is a flickering light that forgot its source, images collide and fail to agree.” Navigating the space between the epic and the immediate, the work weaves arresting imagery, pulsing music, and stark physicality into a surreal journey that fully immerses you.
Gabriela Carrizo - The missing door
We also return to the enigmatic world of The missing door (2013) by choreographer Gabriela Carrizo, created for NDT 1. Set in a confined, domestic-like space that gradually distorts, the piece blurs the line between reality and illusion. Everyday actions transform into unsettling, unpredictable events, revealing emotional fractures beneath the surface. As Carrizo reflects: “The work unfolds in a liminal space where reality and fantasy entwine—a realm reflecting the last minutes of a life caught between life and death.” Dramatic and gripping, The missing door offers a memorable theatrical experience, and we're thrilled to bring it back to the stage.
Hofesh Shechter – Nieuw werk
Na de succesvolle herneming van publieksfavoriet Clowns (2016) in 2024 is choreograaf Hofesh Shechter opnieuw bij ons voor een rauwe en gewaagde wereldpremière. Shechter staat bekend om werken die blootleggen wat er sluimert onder de oppervlakte, zowel in onszelf als de wereld om ons heen. De frictie tussen identiteit, de perceptie van onze geest en van ons lichaam vormt daarbij vaak een rode draad. In zijn nieuwe werk voor NDT 1 ontvouwen droomachtige scènes zich naast plotselinge flarden van de realiteit, waarbij de dansers hun fysieke grenzen opzoeken. “Je geest is een flikkerend licht dat zijn bron is vergeten, waar de gedachten botsen en elkaar tegenspreken,” aldus Shechter. Groots en tegelijkertijd intiem, vol intense fysieke overgave en pulserende muziek, belooft dit werk een surrealistische reis te worden die je volledig meesleept.
Gabriela Carrizo - The missing door
We keren terug naar het mysterieuze The missing door (2013), gecreëerd door choreograaf Gabriela Carrizo voor NDT 1. Gesitueerd in een onheilspellende, huiselijke ruimte die langzaam vervormt, vervagen de grenzen tussen werkelijkheid en illusie. Alledaagse handelingen transformeren in beklemmende situaties, waar de emotionele barsten in de personages steeds grotere vormen aannemen. Carrizo deelt: “Het werk toont een niemandsland waar werkelijkheid en fantasie steeds meer met elkaar verstrengeld raken. Een plek waar de laatste minuten van een leven zichtbaar worden, zwevend tussen leven en dood.”
The missing door is een dramatische en aangrijpende theaterervaring, en wij zijn vereerd om het werk weer op het toneel te brengen.
