Noor Stenfert Kroese
Noor Stenfert Kroese (1993, NL) werkt met fenomenologische interactieve installaties op het snijvlak van ruimte, tijd en niet-menselijke activiteit. Geïnspireerd door de onderlinge verwevenheid van wetenschap, natuur en technologie. Naast haar werk als new media/bio artist en scenograaf is ze in de laatste fase van haar MA Interface Cultures aan de Kunstuniversität Linz (AT). In 2020 studeerde zij af aan de BA Scenografie aan de Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (NL)
Haar werk kenmerkt zich door de wisselwerking tussen het werk en de deelnemers. Noor creëert ontmoetingen waarbinnen je wordt uitgenodigd om te reflecteren op nieuwe en bestaande ideeën. Haar werk geeft geen direct antwoord maar geeft ruimte om vragen te stellen en te ervaren. Vanuit een post-human perspectief verkent ze de mogelijkheden om een bewuste plaats in te nemen in het bewegende, oncontroleerbare netwerk waar we deel van uitmaken.
Haar werk is tentoongesteld o.a. het Ars Electronica Festival (AT), EYE Filmmuseum Amsterdam (NL), de Barcelona Design week (ES), Nationale Opera & Ballet (NL).Voor haar werk ontving ze de YouFab Global Awards (JP) en de Young Talent Award van het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds (NL).

Noor Stenfert Kroese (1993, NL) works with embodied interactive installation at the intersection of space, time and non/human activity. Inspired by the interconnectedness of science, nature and technology. She is currently studying MA Interface Cultures at Kunstuniversität Linz (AT) after completing her BA Scenography at the Amsterdam University of Arts (NL).
Noor works across various media such as bio-art, theatre, and new media art. Creating the intertwinement between her work and the spectators in which new and existing ideas can be reflected on and explored. Her work does not provide a direct answer but seeks the space to ask questions and to experience. From a post-human perspective, she explores the possibilities of taking a conscious place in the moving, uncontrollable network we are part of.
Her work was exhibited and performed at venues and festivals such as the Barcelona Design week (ES), EYE Filmmuseum Amsterdam (NL) Dutch National Opera & Ballet (NL), and the Ars Electronica Festival (AT). Her works received awards from YouFab Global Awards (JP) and Prins Bernhard Young talent Award (NL).
Artist statement
'De wetenschappelijke en technologische ontwikkelingen geven in een ongekend tempo onze wereld vorm. Een wereld met een verontrustende politieke, sociale en ecologische situatie. Technologie en de gevolgen van onze invloed op aarde dringen steeds dieper door in onze levens. Ik ben er van overtuigd dat het nodig is om te kunnen ervaren en bevragen wat dit voor ons betekent. En stil te staan bij waar we naar toe willen met elkaar. Ik creëer daarom in mijn werk de ruimte om te ervaren wat er kan ontstaan door de verbondenheid tussen wetenschap, natuur en technologie.
De mens kan niet langer gezien worden als het middelpunt. We zijn deel van een alomvattend en complex systeem. Een systeem dat bestaat uit mensen, dieren, planten, schimmels, maar ook materie en data. De wisselwerking tussen het werk en de deelnemers is daarom voor mij essentieel. In die ontmoeting ontstaat de mogelijkheid om te reflecteren op nieuwe en bestaande ideeën. Het gaat niet om een antwoord maar de vragen ervaren.
Een ecologie van disciplines en wetenschappelijke kennis in combinatie met visuele, fysieke en artistieke manifestaties kunnen krachtige nieuwe narratieve creëren Naast mijn interesse in wetenschappelijk onderzoek, kenmerkt mijn werk zich door het verkennen van (nieuwe) technologieën en samenwerkingen met het niet-menselijke. Dit komt samen in fenomenologische interactieve installaties op het snijvlak van ruimte, tijd en meer dan/mens.
Ik ben geïntrigeerd door de herkenning van, het begrip voor en de interactie met andere soorten. De symbiose tussen verschillende soorten zijn cruciaal voor het voortbestaan van onze planeet. Net als de menselijke samenleving worden deze samenlevingen gekenmerkt door verscheidenheid, met hun vermogen om te helpen en te hinderen, samen te werken en te rivaliseren. De complexiteit van hun samenlevingsvorm met hun subtiele mengeling van samenwerking en conflict kan worden gezien als een metafoor voor hoe wij ons verhouden tot elkaar en tot onze eigen sociale systemen.'

I work with embodied interactive installations at the intersection of space, time and non/human activity. My work is across various media such as bio-art, theatre, and new media art. Exploring encounters and interactions between art, technology and science to experience what different kinds of collaborations can bring to our society.
In addition to my interest in scientific research, my work is characterized by the exploration and the possibilities of new technologies and collaborations with the nonhuman. I believe that a symbiosis of practices, scientific and factual knowledge in conjunction with visual and physical artistic manifestations can create powerful narratives.
The rapid intensification and development of both scientific and technological progress are shaping our world at an unprecedented speed. In a world with a somewhat disturbing political, social and ecological situation. Now that technology and the consequences of our impact on this earth penetrate deeper into our lives, it is difficult to see humans as purely autonomous beings. It is important to no longer see “the human being” as the center but as part of a comprehensive and complex system. This system consists of humans, animals, plants, fungi, but also matter, non-human life and data.
I am intrigued by the recognition, understanding of and interaction with other species. Especially examples in which individuals of different species cooperate. Some of these mutualisms are crucial to the persistence of the world that we know.
Can we feel and experience what it means to be part of the complex network we live in?
Are we able to listen to other systems instead of taking them over?
Especially with systems that live in such a different environment than we do. The complexity of these ecologies with their subtle blend of cooperation and conflict can be seen as a metaphor for how we relate with each other and our own social systems. Just like human society, these others societies are characterized by variety, with their capacity to help and to hinder, to cooperate and to exploit. Nature and technology are built on connections, and so are we.
Therefore, I look for the intertwinement between my work and the spectators in which new and existing ideas can be reflected on and explored. My work does not provide a direct answer but seeks the space to ask questions and to experience.
