Ontogenesis dreams
Disoriented and disassembled, it finds itself falling, sensing, mimicking the movements of plants, machines or insects;
a post- or trans-human organism trying to piece together its existence in an ambiguous body.
ontogenesis dreams: a sideways stretching of the sensory limbs is a collaborative hybrid of performance and installative environment choreographed and performed
by Astrid Tetsche Sweeney with sculpture & scenography by Weixin Quek Chong.
Inspired by the molting processes of insects, queer ecologies and the radical vision of post-apocalyptic adaptation in Octavia E. Butler’s Xenogenesis trilogy, they explore the body’s impermanence through its relationship with an unruly organic material.
my sweet nasty lunacy
my sweet nasty lunacy is a solo by Hélène Vrijdag: a live EP where her alter ego Woman Folly takes the mic. The concert is a collection of hyperpop bangers as an ode to the hysterical femme. In her arena with nothing but moving lights, concert conventions and the voices in her head, Woman Folly sings her soft setlist from sweet sweet hell.
Woman Folly is a queer and feminist answer to the character of Woman Folly (or Vrouwe Zotte) in Erasmus’ book In Praise of Folly. Erasmus praises the female personification of madness while fueling his love for her with misogyny. Woman Folly became Hélène’s imaginary friend, a penpal she wrote daily letters to between 2019 and 2021. Those letters stayed unanswered, but they were bundled in a book called Vrouwe Zotte which is for sale after the show.
my sweet nasty lunacy voices a diva too angry to give a show. Woman Folly embodies ‘Woman’ as a phantasmic creature outside of gender binaries, and ‘Folly’ as a protest against normativity.
