Over Steven Michel
De voorbije jaren jaar was hij ook regelmatig te zien in het werk van Jan Martens, meer bepaald in SWEAT BABY SWEAT (2011), VICTOR (2013), THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER (2014), THE COMMON PEOPLE (2016), RULE OF THREE (2017), any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones (2021) en VOICE NOISE (2024).
About Steven Michel
As a performer, Steven Michel worked with choreographers, theatre and film directors such as David Zambrano, Falk Richter, Lukas Dhont, Daniel Linehan and Maud le Pladec amongst others. He became also a long-time collaborator of Jan Martens, performing in productions such as SWEAT BABY SWEAT (2011), VICTOR (2013), THE DOG DAYS ARE OVER (2014), THE COMMON PEOPLE (2016) RULE OF THREE (2017), any attempt will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones (2021) and VOICE NOISE (2024).
Alongside his work as a performer, Steven developed his own choreographic practice. In 2014, he began researching ‘audio-vision’—the relationship between image and sound in performance—which resulted in his solo THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS (2016). In this work, his interests in sound, rhythm, animation and image come together in their fullest form. His fascination with interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly between performance and other art forms, continues to shape both his choreographic practice and his work as a performer. Since 2023, Steven Michel has been one of four artistic leaders at the dance organization GRIP, alongside choreographers Femke Gyselinck, Jan Martens and Cherish Menzo.
