From 28 to 30 April, the festival will visit Rotterdam for the sixth time. Be surprised by today's committed, bold and barrier-breaking dance makers and performers. The festival shows innovative dance in a generously diverse program with performances, installations, workshops and (after)talks.
Thursday 28 April

- The woman destroyed, Courtney Robertson (20:30 Kleine Zaal)
In THE WOMAN DESTROYED, choreographer Courtney May Robertson looks at the complexities of submission and resistance. Audiences are invited to experience the unfolding of the performance simultaneously with Courtney, as she responds to the demands of a non-emotional entity in real time. - Margela is going primal + Rave, Keren Rosenberg (21:50, Krijn Boon Studio)
The figure of Margela, is the physical, artistic, and spiritual source from which Keren’s performative novel Going Primal is derived from. It is an ode to her ancestral spirit: a combative hero with a soft heart. The performance is followed by a rave.

- Vibes 4: Mujõ, Jesus de Vega (19:00 Krijn Boon Studio)
Vibes is a sensory adventure for everyone; where sound inspires movement and movement becomes music! Led by music and the voice of Mujõ, you will embark on an adventure through a labyrinth filled with sonic obstacles. To progress through the maze, you will have to move and use your body! Using headphones and a smartphone-app, you will both dance alone and together with other participants. This game-like adventure is designed to be accessible for everyone, regardless of their age or dance experience. It is a journey in which sound, the joy of movement, and intuitive creativity come together: this individual expedition becomes a collective celebration!

In Between is a solo dance performance in which choreographer Evangelos Biskas works with the absurd and irrational character of his own dreams. He uses their images, mood and intentions in order to direct his instinctive physical approach. Experimental hip hop, contemporary and improvisation techniques are blended with each other in unexpected ways. - Ohboy!, Antonin Rioche (21:00 Kleine Zaal)
In the poetical Ohboy! the dancer is forced to move between situations of adversity and physical and mental exhaustion. He is forced to accept his vulnerability and pierces through the essence of loneliness. - chameleon + WRAPPED, Joseph Simon en Tuan Tran (21:50 Kleine Zaal)
In his first dance film Le Faune, the camera took on the perspective of a peeping and
withdrawn faun. In this second film Chameleon, Joseph Simon turns the camera around
to film this lonesome creature, embodied in a chameleon. Its body is twisting of desire
and ambiguity, searching or chasing after something. In an attempt to visually transmit the
visceral, the camera dives under and into the textures of the skin.
In the duet WRAPPED, Tuan Tran and Joseph Simon explore familiar places of discomfort; the
entanglements our thoughts, actions and relationships wrap us into again and again until they
become familiar constraints.

Third Culture Spaces Event: Sticky Feet X Dancehall, Joseph Simon (14:00 Dansateliers)
The Third Culture Spaces Event is a workshop on bridging cultures and dance practices through an exchange between the established Jamaican dance style Dancehall and Joseph’s ballet-based movement language Sticky Feet.
The visitor can also actively participate in the conversation around this process or ask questions about exchange between dance cultures and what forms this can take.

Our Arms Grew Together is a live self-portrait of the love relationship between the couple Marta & Kim. In a world that celebrates independence, they choose deliberately for interdependency. - Intervention – closing the festival, Joseph Simon (21:30 Foyer)
Third culture jam meets House Jam Rotterdam. Rotterdam based, aligned in their mission of creating spaces to dance “pour le kif”* and create community that is fluid, that gathers on rhythms and sounds of House and more. Everybody is welcome, regardless of age, background or experience to enjoy pure moments of exchange through movement. DJ and first generation Dutch house dancer Joseph Simon from chill on Tuesdays will be spinning, accompanied with live percussions by Benjamin Enrique Quentin. Joseph, Myriam, Vanildo, Noëlle and Nora will take you to a playful and genuine experience of what it is to REALLY jam.
*French slang for “for the joy”.
Moving Futures Festival is an initiative of De Nieuwe Oost, ICK Artist Space, DansBrabant, Dansateliers, Korzo, Grand Theatre Groningen. With a nationwide network and a joining of forces with local theaters and partners, the above dance houses strive to make a new generation of choreographers visible on a national scale.
